I shoot galleries 1-2 times a week on Southern Vancouver Island beaches like Jordan River and Sombrio. It's a fun way to get a few photos of yourself with no planning needed. Book a private surf photoshoot
Booking a private surf photography shoot is a great way to capture your connection to the ocean and surfing, no matter your skill level. These photos are great for learning or as keepsakes and custom art for your home. You can choose your location and timing (options below) at spots like Jordan River and Sombrio, so it’s all tailored to you.
Due to changing sunrise and sunset times throughout the surf season, time slots are calculated from the time of sunset or sunrise that day:
Time slots:
DAWN PATROL - begins at sunrise
EARLY BIRD - begins 1.5 hours after sunrise
GOLDEN HOUR - begins 3 hours before sunset
SUNSET - begins an hour before sunset
If these don’t work for you, just request a different time. These slots are set for the best light, but on overcast days, any time works!

I’m Nikkey Dawn, a surf photographer and ocean advocate who loves capturing the beauty and feeling of surfing. My work reflects a deep appreciation for the ocean and our connection to it.
You can often find me on the south island beaches or in the water—feel free to come say hi if you do! I’m also on the board of All Wavy Baby, a local surf nonprofit dedicated to celebrating community. Getting in the ocean and feeling empowered through surfing is our passion, and we’re all about sharing that with others!
